Mold usually appears in damp and dark places and hardly can you eliminate it, but still, there are ways to kill it in a natural way without using any chemicals. Here are five of them. This is good news especially for people who are against using chemicals and cleaners from the stores and prefer using natural cleaners.
These methods vary when it comes to the degree of effort you need to make and to the levels of odor related to the cleaning method of choice. If you decide to use the tea tree oil or vinegar, be careful.
Tea tree oil
This is one of the natural methods for killing mold that is are most expensive and have strong smell. It takes several days until the smell of the tea tree oil is gone completely, so have this on mind before you decide to use this method. Take two teaspoons of tea tree oil and mix it with two cups of water. Spray this mixture on the areas invaded by mold spores and let it dry.
Vinegar
This is the method that when employed, leaves the strongest smell, but it is very effective. Put the vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it on the places where mold is growing, then leave it for about four hours. After you have done that, scrub the mold with a brush. Those who don’t like the smell of vinegar can add a few drops of an essential oil and that will cover the smell of the vinegar. The method that employs white vinegar can kill more than 4/5 of the mold spores. Not only the mold spores, it also kills different bacteria and viruses.
Hydrogen peroxide
Add some three-percent hydrogen in some water. Use this mixture as a spray and apply it on areas with mold, then leave it for about ten minutes. After that, take a damp and clean cloth and scrub the mold away. If you add some vinegar in this mixture, it will have double effect in killing the mold. Keep this mixture in dark place, because the hydrogen peroxide breaks down when exposed to light.
Citrus seed extract
You can use an extract like grapefruit for example and have the effects that vinegar has on the mold, just without the smell that comes with the vinegar. Add 20 drops of this extract to two cups of water and make a spray. Spray this mixture on areas with mold. Remember not to rinse this mixture off, because that will negate the effects.
Baking soda
You can use just baking soda or you can mix it with vinegar and water. Add some baking soda to some water and spray the solution on the areas with mold. You can also add the baking soda in a solution made of water and vinegar. After you have applied it to the mold areas, leave it for several minutes, and then scrub it off with some damp and clean washcloth. This is one of the methods that smell the least.
By employing this method, you will have a clean house with just a little effort that consists of mixing some ingredients and making a solution, applying it in the affected areas and rubbing the mold off when necessary. It is a nice substitution for the chemicals that not only have strong smell, but also leave many chemicals behind on the surface you have cleaned. Use the natural methods and make sure your home and its surfaces are safe, not only clean.
