Scientists Say That Starting Work Before 10am Is Similar To Torture
The leading researcher at Oxford University, Dr. Paul Kelley has lately found out that the most common form of modern day torture is having to wake up and actually start working before ten o’clock in the morning, something that impacts an enormous amount of us.
Circadian Rhythm is actually the biological timer of our body. This body clock is a genetically pre-programmed cycle that controls the activity of our brain, the energy levels, the perception of time, and the production of hormones. We, as people, torture ourselves scientifically if we start working before 10 am, because in this way we interfere unnaturally with our Circadian Rhythm, and thus throw numerous aspect of our health out of balance.
According to Kelley, people cannot change their 24-hour rhythms. This is due to the fact that people cannot learn to get up at a certain time, as the liver and the heart for example have different patterns and people are asking them to shift two or three hours.
How Did This Happen?
The eight-hour working day was introduced in the early twentieth century, and it was designed around the maximization of 24-7 factory productivity. However, back then, the natural human body cock was not taken into account. Nevertheless, the ancient human body evolved around the daily cycle of sunlight, instead of around these modern day strategies of business and commerce. Here is what Dr. Paul Kelley reported for the British Science Festival:
‘Our society is deprived from sleep. Also, this represents an international issue, because everyone is suffering, when they do not have to.’
The idea of Dr. Kelley was to move the start time of a school in Britain from 8.30 am to 10.00 am. A certain school was chosen to test this theory, and after a certain amount of time and a further wave of exams, the results implied that the attendance levels had improved along with the general productivity of the school – and what’s maybe most important, the marks of the students went up drastically.
Imagine if this idea was transferred into other sectors of society. There would be a lot of improvements. People would not resemble zombies who are overtired, overworked, and coffee intoxicated and they would not have to work in the hours of the day when they should be sleeping, but they would be naturally productive, fully fledged, focused, useful, and happy.
All companies forcing people to begin working before 10 am are adding to serious emotional and physical stress felt by the employees and are supporting longer term adverse health risks as a result of these stern, unhealthy working patterns. These patterns are a major reason the average American consumes more than three cups of coffee a day to try and keep themselves as alert as they possibly can. If we put these coffees in numbers, that would be 40 billion dollars a year.
