Being a parent involves numerous responsibilities, one of the most important and the most precious ones being maintaining the health of the baby. Remember this the next time when a friend of yours says ‘let me just warn you that Jimmy has a cold. But no biggie, we can still visit.’

Then, you meet for a play date at the park. Your kid or newborn is healthy, and theirs coughs or has green snot on the nose.

Has sometimes happened to you that your dinner date comes and says ‘the kids won’t eat; they have been a bit ill all week’?

No, no, never!

One of the first rules when your kid or kids are sick is to never take them to the kindergarten. The next one is to never show for play dates. Also, do not kiss other people’s kids or play with them. The point is that we need to prevent the spreading of germs and thus avoid a week of taking care of sickness, vomiting, and childcare expenses. Everyone needs to rest a bit instead of being sick in bed.

Someone might think that this is not that important, but the truth is that it is very important. Moms in general are not paranoid creatures who rush to see the doctor or who wrap their kids in wool and cotton for nothing. Germs and flu are all around us, but we cannot keep our kids in a bubble forever.

Read the story of a UK mom named Claire Henderson. This story might also be called a horror story. The newborn Brooke was the baby girl of Claire who was kissed on the mouth and then spent five days in hospital with herpes on the cheeks, the chin, and on the lips.

Fortunately, the baby was lucky, considering the fact that cold sores can be deadly for newborns under three months. This was confirmed by the case of the baby Eloise Lampton from Mackay, Queensland who died of herpes last year several days after the birth.

We need to remember that kissing a baby on their lips is wrong and should not be allowed. This goes for all people, even those who look healthy, Claire Henderson warns us.

If you see someone with cold sore, make sure that you let them know to keep the distance.

The real question is: why someone who has cold sores would want to go and visit a healthy, innocent, delicate little human being? What’s more, why would they want to kiss it, especially on the lips?

People who do this simply cannot justify this behavior of theirs. During the first six weeks after the birth, babies have no immunity and their bodies cannot fight the germs we carry daily. Maybe for you your condition is just a runny nose or an ugly sore, but for the baby, this can be a life-threat.

Why would someone infringe the baby’s right to develop healthy?

If someone in your family or a friend of yours has a baby and you want to go and visit it, you should wait at least six weeks before you do this.

Even though not all people respect this, it has to be a rule. Don’t you think that it is better if you say how you feel, instead of hiding that and endangering the health of someone you love?

After reading this, we think that it is about time that people stop judging the parents who are overprotective and understand that they are only protecting the health of their baby. Every baby deserves to be healthy and no one should disrespect that.

Never kiss a newborn on their lips. Never take your sickish children around a baby and do not let them visit it.

When the health of the kid is at risk, everything is allowed.
