Panic Attacks and Anxiety Linked to Low Vitamin B6 and Iron levels
Recently in Japan has been conducted a human scientific study that discovered a significant link between panic/anxiety attacks and vitamin B6 and iron levels in the blood.
According to this study, if one gets occasional panic attacks marked by episodes of hyperventilation, they might be encountering the symptoms of a basic supplement inadequacy that can be easily corrected.
Panic attacks and hyperventilation belong to the group of paroxysmal psychiatric events. These events have symptoms that occur suddenly. When one has panic attacks, they are experiencing at least four of the following symptoms: pounding heart, palpitations, sweating, accelerated heart rate, sensations of smothering or shortness of breath, trembling or shaking.
Even though there are many other sources that have reported on the topic, a great number of them have made a critical error, stating that it is just ‘B vitamins and iron’ that are connected to the disorders. Nevertheless, the researchers have tested a few types of B vitamin and discovered that B2 and B12 are unrelated to panic attacks/hyperventilation attacks. They need to be precise that the vitamin B6 is the one strongly correlated to the disorders.
Still, we need to mention that B vitamins in general are linked to improved mental health. Other symptoms of lack of vitamin B are anxiety, agoraphobia, irritability, emotional instability, and fatigue.
The ‘happiness chemical’ of the brain is serotonin, which is synthesized in the body from its precursor (‘building block’) tryptophan. It is a well known fact that vitamin B6 and iron play significant roles and are cofactors in the process of synthesis of serotonin in the human body. A factor plus is the process of obtaining tryptophan from the diet, a substance that belongs to the group of amino acids.
One of the best sources of tryptophan is pumpkin seeds. This substance can also be found in turkey (this is why you feel sleepy after having turkey for dinner), tuna, grapefruit juice, Mozzarella, eggs, sesame seeds, pistachios, chia seeds, etc.
Vitamin B6, tryptophan, and iron can also be obtained as supplements. If you want to find a good-quality B vitamin supplements, you are recommended to purchase the top quality while food-based varieties like those produced by companies such as MegaFood and Garden of Life.
