Doctors Are Urging You To Stop Feeding Your Children Hot Dogs – Here’s Why
Doctors warn parents from all over the country with this simple message:
Stop feeding your kids hot dogs!
Hot dog is one of the favorite American foods, and that is certain. Everyone remembers having one, either mixed up with mac and cheese or on the grill for the Fourth of July.
Only thinking about hot dogs makes your mouth watery. Every Fourth of July, there are approximately 155 million wieners consumed nation-wide. That is a huge number!
However, a new research has shown that children who consume more than a dozen hot dogs per month are nine times more likely to develop childhood leukemia.
Furthermore, mothers who consume one hot dog a week during pregnancy have increased their child’s risk of developing brain tumor later on in life.
Just the same, fathers who frequently consume hot dogs before conceiving a child also increase the risk of cancer to their child.
The problem? Nitrite additives.
Nitrites are additives which are being added to hot dogs, for the purpose of fighting botulism.
While the hot dog is being cooked, the nitrates combine with amines that are naturally present in the meat to create N-nitroso, which is a highly carcinogenic compound.
If you must feed your family hot dogs, at least try to find nitrite-free meats or at least limit the quantity of hot dogs you and your family consume.
You can also ask your local supermarket to start carrying nitrite-free hot dogs exclusively and lobby the local school board to cancel the consumption of hot dogs that contain nitrites.
Do you still eat hot dogs?
