Florida Woman Gets Sick, Nearly Dies From Mold In Breast Implants

A woman in Florida has become badly ill and has discovered that her bad condition was due to a mold growing in her breast implants.

This is the case of Anne Ziegenhorn of Shalimar, Florida, who started experiencing symptoms in 2011, the ABC affiliate WEAR reports. This woman had never experienced any serious health issues before, and suddenly she started gaining weight, started losing her eyesight and experiencing severe pain.

Even her mental functions started deteriorating to the extent that she started wondering whether she had Alzheimer’s disease.

She had been given the wrong diagnose several times, and then she finally found out what the problem was when Dr. Susan Kolb, an expert for breast implants and author of the book “The Naked Truth About Breast Implants” told her that her illness was caused by mold that had been growing inside her implants.

Ziegenhorn had to remove the moldy implants, and that happened two years after she first started feeling ill. The woman even has a video on her smartphone of her implants full of mold that were taken out of her body. This operation might have saved her life.

She has told the WEAR that before the diagnosis she was feeling that she was going to die, and that the doctors were going to allow that.

Doctor Kolb has declared that saline breast implants can cause various health problems, which can be pretty serious. Even about 30 percent of the patients experience harsh reactions.

The doctor says that she has a 30-year experience and knows that eventually everybody will become ill from their breast implants, except in cases where they die from something else before they become ill from them.

The doctor also clarified that numerous patients become ill from mold growing inside the implants because of defective valves, or because of sensitiveness to the cosmetic devices’ silicone shells. She advised all women to change their breast implants once in every eight to fifteen years in order to prevent problems like these.

After she discovered what had caused her condition, Ziegenhorn has talked to other people who have suffered similar symptoms. Together with these people, they have formed the “Implant Truth Survivors Committee”, with the aim to raise awareness of the health dangers that surround breast implants and to stimulate the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to take some action.
