YOU NEED TO CLEAN YOUR MATTRESS. HERE’S THE EASY WAY TO DO IT
Just as you take care of your bed sheets and make sure they are clean and smell fresh, you should take care of your mattress as well.
Here are some maintenance and cleaning tips which will help you make sure your sleeping area is as soothing as possible.
People sweat nearly half a pint of perspiration a night on average. A third of their lives people spend lying on the mattress in a horizontal posture. You probably have thought about cleaning the mattress, but you have only removed and changed the sheets, as you cannot remove the cover of the mattress.
As scary as it may sound, mattresses hover dirt, dust, spills, strains, dust mites and so on. It is very important to keep your mattress clean, and there are numerous reasons for that, one of them being the fact that your body lies on top of it with only a sheet separating you from your mattress.
Still, you do not need to worry because we are going to provide you several tips and tricks which will alleviate the process of cleaning your mattress.
LET’S START WITH SOME MAINTENANCE TIPS:
Vacuum your mattress
Vacuuming is necessary for removing dust, dead skin cells and other debris that lies on your mattress. You should do this every time you rotate the mattress, or at least once a season.
Deodorize your mattress
Taking in consideration that your mattress is full of sweat, dust, and other stuff, it can start developing its own unique smell. In order to fight this, you should sift baking soda over your mattress and leave it for about 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, vacuum it up. Baking soda is known as a natural deodorizer and can help you deodorize the odors. You can also add about five drops of some essential oil into the baking soda before the sifting and you will enjoy a nice scent for several nights thereafter.
Spot cleaning and strains
Normally, there is one type of stains that end up on the mattress, and that is protein stains (sweat, urine, blood, vomit…).
Using a wet cloth, remove the stains with pressing motion rather than circular motions. When it comes to cleaning the mattress, you should only use cold water. When fresh, the protein stains can be removed with a mixture of water, salt and baking soda. You should just make a paste from these ingredients in equal amounts and rub this paste on the area and brush it off half an hour later. Next, take a cloth soaked in cold water and remove the excess and then let the mattress dry.
Steam cleaning or deep cleaning
Steam cleaning is covering the mattress with steam in order to fight dust mites, and deep cleaning is extracting the humidity. If you want to choose one of these options, you should contact a professional instead of doing it on your own. The trained professionals have experience and access to great extraction equipment.
OTHER TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Turn and/or flip your mattress
You should practice this at the turn of every season.
- No water on your mattress
You should not let liquids get in touch with your mattress as they get trapped in it and have nowhere to go.
- Use fans to dry the mattress
You should not sleep on the mattress if it is not completely dry.
HOW TO DEAL WITH BED BUGS?
You cannot deal with bed bugs on your own. Instead, you should contact a professional as quickly as possible.
Here is a tip that will help you save your mattress from stains, spills, etc:
The best way in which you can save and protect your mattress is to use a mattress protector. This is the best method to make sure that stains and other debris won’t end up on your mattress.
