STUDIES PROVE CINNAMON KILLS CANCER CELLS

The researchers at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Maryland published a study in 2005, in which an amazing discovery was made. It was found out that the common spice cinnamon can be considered as a medicine and is able to kill cancer cells.

This study has used a water-soluble, powdered extract of cinnamon bark, which was injected into growing cancer cell cultures. As in all studies of this kind, the scientists have utilized cell lines that are either actual cancer cells properly maintained for laboratory use, or they create cancer cells via different chemicals, viruses and radiation.

HUMAN LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA CELLS HALTED

This study used three types of human cancer cells: one lymphoma and two leukemia cell lines. Leukemia is the proliferation of malignant blood cells called leukocytes and lymphoma is the malignant attack of lymphocytes, types of lymph cells. This study was to determine whether the cinnamon extract could stop the progression of these cancer cells in vitro and if so, how exactly was that achieved.

Study Results

1. The cinnamon extract has been noticed to efficiently reduce the rate of proliferation of all three types of cancer cells over a time span of 24 hours. This time is known to be the necessary time for one doubling of the cell population.
2. The reduction in the cell proliferation is greater if the amount of cinnamon extract is higher
3. Where the concentration of the cinnamon was highest, the reduction in cell proliferation compared to the control group was about 50 percent

In a Pub Med research from 2009 it was discovered that the cinnamon oil is highly efficient when it comes to treating tumors, melanomas and gastric cancers.

A study on cinnamon from 2010 has revealed that cinnamon extract triggers tumor cell death through inhibition of NFkB and AP1. the extract of cinnamon powerfully inhibits different tumor cell growths in vitro and suppressed in vivo melanoma development.
