The Boy Died an Hour after Bathing. All Parents Should See This
Spending a day at the swimming pool is really exhausting and makes you feel sleepy, especially if you are a child that has been extremely active during the entire day. That is why Cassandra Jackson did not suspect anything when her son told her he was sleepy and needed to take some rest after he had spent the day at the pool. her son Johnny, 10, went to bed immediately after the wearing day, and she did not even suspect that there is something wrong with him. When she went to check on him a bit later, she was shocked by what she saw.
Johnny’s breathing was really slow and difficult and he had foam on his mouth. She took him to the emergency room right away and there, the doctors told her that Johnny had experienced ‘secondary drowning’, a condition that results from swallowed water and that can occur within 72 hours.
Secondary drowning is pretty rare, but if its symptoms are ignored, it can end up in death. When somebody (whether they are a child or an adult) inhales even a small gush of water (whether it is from the pool, the ocean or the lake), heir lungs become irritated and swelling occurs. Typically very little water is present in the lungs when secondary drowning occurs, however, this small quantity of liquid is enough to obstruct the lungs ability to provide oxygen to the bloodstream.
In case your child, or someone you know, has had a near drowning, or they have swallowed too much water, see if there are some symptoms of secondary drowning and if you suspect anything, take them to the hospital right away. The symptoms of secondary drowning can occur between one and 72 hours afterwards.
They are the following:
- Shortness of breath after bathing
- Mood swing and irritability caused by no apparent reason
- Excess weariness after bathing
