The plant itself is very high and this makes it easy for you to accidentally touch some sap or break a stem. Grotesque blisters are what you’re going to get from the unintentional touching. You should also watch out for green stems with purple patches, a little hairy with white hairs.

Touching the plant’s sap causes severe blisters, third degree burns and if it comes in contact with your eyes, it can cause blindness. When the strong chemicals it contains come into contact with your skin, they radically increase your skin’s sensitivity to light.
The blisters you get are quite painful. They appear within 48 hours and last from about a few months to even six years. If the sap comes into contact with your eyes, it causes long term sensitivity to light.
Measures to take after a contact with this plant
If you still couldn’t manage to stay away of this plant and you and your kids touched this giant hogweed, here’s what you should do:
If under any bad circumstances the sap comes in contact with your eyes, wash them with water right away, using extensive flushes. Also, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sunlight.
If some part of this plant comes in contact with your skin, wash the area of contact with water instantly, because it may take only 15 minutes for the toxins to begin to react. After that, make sure you stay away from the sun. applying sunscreen on the affected area is a must.
